Blood testing

Start with a blood test

This is where most women start, because it gives us something real to talk about. You order it on the blood test page, choose how the sample is taken, and give us 3 dates that suit you. We reply and confirm the date that is right for what we are measuring.

01
A kit you use yourself, at home
We post a kit to your door and you take the sample yourself using a Tasso device, which sits on your upper arm. It punctures the skin to collect a few drops, so it is not needle free, but there is nothing going into the crook of your elbow and nothing you have to watch. You post it back to the laboratory. No appointment needed, so this is the quicker route and the one most women choose.
02
A phlebotomist who comes to you
A phlebotomist visits your home and takes the sample from a vein in the usual way. Some markers can only be measured properly from a venous sample, and we will tell you honestly if yours are among them.

Not sure which one you need? Order either and say so in the notes. We will tell you which is right for the markers being measured, rather than leaving you to guess.

Who we can look after

Our services are for adults aged 18 and over.

Everything we do is built around female reproductive and hormonal physiology. Our testing panels, our reference ranges and the way we read a result all assume physiology that was female at birth and has not since been altered by gender-affirming hormone therapy or surgery.

This is a limit on what we are set up to interpret safely, not a judgement about anybody. Where that physiology has been changed, hormone levels and reference ranges behave differently, and you would be better looked after by a clinician who specialises in that care.

Tell us before you pay if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take a blood thinner or have a bleeding or clotting disorder, or if you have ever fainted having blood taken.

We reply within 2 working days, confirming the date that is right for the markers we are measuring rather than simply the first one free, and telling you exactly how to prepare. Your date is not confirmed until we have written back to you.

We use your address only to send the kit or arrange a home visit, and your dates only to find one we can cover. Please do not send detailed health information through the order form. The booking and cancellation policy is set out below.

Changing, rescheduling and cancelling

Who we can look after

Our services are for adults aged 18 and over. Everything we do is built around female reproductive and hormonal physiology. Our testing panels, our reference ranges and the way we read a result all assume physiology that was female at birth and has not since been altered by gender-affirming hormone therapy or surgery.

This is a limit on what we are set up to interpret safely, not a judgement about anybody. Where that physiology has been changed, hormone levels and reference ranges behave differently, and you would be better looked after by a clinician who specialises in that care. You will be asked to confirm this when you book.

Your right to cancel

Because you are buying at a distance, you have 14 days from purchase to cancel, for any reason and without giving one. If you ask us to start within those 14 days, you keep the right to cancel and you pay only a proportionate amount for what has actually been provided by the time you tell us. Nothing in the timings below removes this right.

Changing, rescheduling and cancelling

You can change or cancel your appointment yourself using the link in your confirmation and reminder emails. What is possible depends on how close to the appointment you are.

  • More than 24 hours before: cancel for a full refund, or reschedule.
  • Between 24 and 12 hours before: reschedule only. The appointment can no longer be cancelled.
  • Less than 12 hours before: the appointment can no longer be changed or cancelled.

Outside those windows the fee is not refundable, because your time is held for you and cannot usually be offered to someone else at short notice. We would always far rather you moved an appointment than lost it, so please reschedule as early as you can.

If you miss an appointment

If you do not attend, or we cannot reach you, a member of the team will try to contact you up to 3 times. If we still cannot reach you, the appointment is recorded as missed. If you then ask for a refund, we will refund 50% of the fee. The other half covers the time that was reserved for you.

If something went wrong and you genuinely could not attend, tell us. We will always listen first. The full detail is in our terms of service.

Testing works best alongside a conversation.

Which markers are worth measuring depends on your history and symptoms, and a result nobody reads against your story is just another number in a folder. Your written report is included either way, and a 20 minute results review can be booked separately if you would rather have it talked through. What you pay for testing and your consultation comes off the Restored Programme if you go on to join it.
